The Insights with Chang Chang | Contemporary Jewelry
Interview by Crystal Cheng / Photography by Chaunté Vaughn
Irregular blocks in shades of cement colors are silently releasing their subtle tension and immersive spaces onto a white canvas. The appearance of rigid lines with a translucent layer of strokes and textures surreptitiously transforms us into a calm and quiet state. This is the signature look of visual artist Blanca Guerrero’s work that has left us with an unforgettable impression since we first encountered it. Immigrating from Spain to New York at a young age, Blanca inherited a rich artistic sensibility from the creative influences of her family and the multicultural environment of New York City, further developing her unique serene aesthetic that conveys her minimalist perception.
On a warm day in September, we visited Blanca’s beautiful studio and apartment where we saw traces of her inspirations and nostalgic memories. Gentle, calm, and amiable like her work, Blanca welcomed us with a bright smile and shared with us her path as a young artist as well as the insight into her inner observations.

From Another Point of View with Nice Things Paloma S.

We spent a morning with artist Blanca Guerrero in Gowanus, Brooklyn, where she has a studio and where she explains how things change very quickly.
Blanca shows us her work, including the cement cubes she produced several years ago, that she's now creating on canvas. Blanca's work exudes a Japanese feel, as does the studio she shares with her father, where there are little details that look like still lives, ready to create a film set.

Gowanus Artists Paint a Mangled and Messy Image of America, Hyperallergic
Article and photo essay by Daniel Larkin
Artists are struggling with what it means to be a New Yorker in 2018.
(...) Blanca Guerrero was contemplating the hyper-aggression and turmoil in the daily news and how much it’s bringing her down when she painted “Untitled/Volcán” (2018) (volcán is Spanish for volcano). There’s something of the ash, smoke, and fog from an eruption here in the forms. Guerrero’s painting is both messy and tranquil, an inspiring image for serenity amidst the chaos.
