"She paints as though she is carefully toeing a line between the surface of her canvas and what might exist immediately below. (...) she asks the viewer to change their perspective, proposing that they navigate their way into impossible settings: between the fibers of single-ply paper, or nestled into pockmarks left after several glazes have been sanded away. And then, once there, she insists that you stay."

Blanca seeks to guide one toward stillness and contemplation. She works intuitively, balancing emotion and chance with intention.
Materials included in her practice are water-based paint, washi, cement and graphite. Through careful layering of these materials, delicate shifts between opacity and transparency are achieved. She is interested in investigating the perception of and reaction to diffusing elements in nature such as fog, haze, or the feeling of being submerged in a body of water. These are shifts between elemental states, expressions of a fleeting moment, a  subtle articulation of impermanence. These transient states affect the senses, modify perception of volumes, and alter landscape as well as mindscape.

Blanca is a visual artist born in Madrid, Spain and raised in Manhattan, New York. She received a BFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2012. Her work has been exhibited in the United States, Spain, and Japan. Recently, she was an artist-in-residence at Art Cake in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. In September of 2021, she relocated to Madrid after 28 years of living and working in New York.
